A house has stood at Ballindoolin since 1730, when the Bor family first settled in the quiet countryside of County Kildare. The manor was built in 1822 from local limestone, with a graceful four-bay, three-storey facade and a total size of 12,000 sq feet. Through generations, Ballindoolin has retained its sense of history, from the Hindu-Gothic plasterwork in the entrance hall, to the grand staircase to the original fireplaces. The two-acre walled garden, lovingly restored and redesigned by renowned horticulturist Daphne Shackleton in 1997, returned it to its Victorian-era grandeur with herbaceous borders, lavender paths, rose beds, fruit trees, and a working kitchen garden. It is, quite simply, one of the most beautiful private gardens in Ireland.
